Richard's Music is the original guitar shop of Lawrence, Kansas.  We have supplied local and visiting musicians with guitars, drums, basses, accessories and much more since the 1960's. The shop's welcoming vibe, knowledgeable staff, and affordable prices have made us an integral part of the regional music scene for decades. We keep a diverse inventory of both new and used instruments.  While we are mainly a rock music store, we are not restricted to just guitars and drums.  Every time you come to Richard's Music, you never know what you are going to find!

Acoustic Guitars
Musicians looking to learn how to play the guitar will find a large selection of student model acoustic guitars.  It can be hard to find a guitar that is affordable but reliable, and buying an aspiring guitarist a cheap, poor quality guitar to begin on can make learning guitar a painful experience and can be one of the most discouraging aspects of learning the instrument.  We carry acoustic guitars, both new and used, that are extremely affordable and great, reliable, and enjoyable players.  Our new Ventura acoustics start at only $90 and play like a guitar of three times the price.  The condition of our used acoustics, including our cheaper used acoustics, are carefully examined before purchase and set-up before being put on the floor so you know they'll last.

Our selection of acoustics isn't only limited to entry-level instruments.  We have a great selection of mid-grade and high-quality acoustics as well.  Seagull guitars are great for guitarists looking to move up to a mid-level or premium instrument. Seagull's acoustics are a great way to get a high-quality guitar without paying an arm and a leg.  Ventura makes great mid and expert-level Acoustics as well, featuring solid tops and electronics.  We also carry acoustics by Great Divide.  This new guitar company makes guitars that sound and play great but cost under $400.  We also sell premium-quality used acoustics, and our inventory is always changing!
Electric Guitars
We carry a wide variety of electric guitars of all shapes, sizes, prices, and time periods.  From basic but reliable student model guitars barely over (and sometimes under) $100, to collectable and vintage instruments, we try to cover all ground and have an electric guitar for everyone.  We are authorized dealers of Gretsch and Eastwood guitars, and our used inventory generally covers all name brand guitar manufacturers.
We also carry new Eastwood electric basses and keep a good stock of used basses in at all times. 

Amplifiers
We have a great selection of amplifiers for guitar, bass, keyboard, etc.  We have both tube and solid state amps ranging from small practice amps to half stacks.  We're dealers in Vox Amplification, a name brand company from the '60s whose amps, from their cheapest solid state practice amp to their flagship tube combo amps, all have outstanding tone. Richard's always have one of the best selection of used amps (especially tube amps) in town. 

Effects
Check out our new display case, and newly-increased supply of effects pedals for guitar, bass, and more! We sell Electro Harmonix, Boss, Vox, Roland, and Mod Tone effects new, and always have tons of used pedals in as well.  We sometimes sell hand-wired distortion and other effects pedals, that were made in-store (these go fast so keep checking back!)  We can also do pedal mods!

Keyboards
 Keep an eye out for vintage Fender Rhodes pianos or Wurlitzers that will show up, because they sell fast.  We generally carry used keyboards and electric pianos, but inventory depends on what sellers and consigners bring in.  Keep checking back for new inventory.  We also sell circuit-bent keyboards.

Drums
 Our new location has allowed us to expand our drum selection significantly.  We sell used drum sets from $100 upwards.  We have many different options and excellent deals for beginning drummers who want to find an affordable drum set

PA Gear
We carry speakers, mixers, power amplifiers, and microphones in a wide range of prices.  Our selection varies weekly so keep checking back for new deals.  We also rent PA systems for $50 a day!

Violins/Violas/Cellos
We always have new and used violins, violas, and occasionally a cello or double bass.  Generally these are student models, affordably priced for the beginner player.

 

Ukuleles
 Ukuleles are enjoying a huge return to popularity.  We keep one of the best stocks of Ukuleles in the region. Ukes are great for travel, kids, or just something fun to have around.  We carry Mahalo and Makai ukuleles.  Mahalos come in the soprano size and cost only $28.95 brand new.  Mahalo also makes a 'Guitar Uke.' This is small 1/2 sized six-string ukulele, which is played and tuned like a guitar.  It is the ideal travel instrument, and at $44.95 you don't have to worry so much about the financial consequences of it getting lost on the road.  Makai ukes are higher-quality instruments, but still affordable, starting at $50.  They come in soprano, pineapple, concert, tenor, and baritone sizes, and use high quality woods ranging from mahogany to juneberry. Many Makai ukes have solid tops.
